Since making landfall on Friday, Hurricane Harvey has devastated much of Southeastern Texas with historic flooding, leaving tens of thousands of residents displaced and in need of help, not knowing when they’ll be able to return home. Several lives have been lost, and the death toll is still unknown. This deluge of rain, fierce winds and raging floods could result in the costliest natural disaster in U.S. history.
And the storm isn’t over. Early this morning, Harvey made a second landfall near the Louisiana-Texas border, and more heavy rain is expected in the region. The National Weather Service warns that “catastrophic and life-threatening flooding” is still a threat to southeastern Texas and portions of southwestern Louisiana.
Those in the wake of Hurricane Harvey are dealing with the immediate destruction, but recovery efforts could take months. Watching from afar is difficult and may make you feel helpless, but there are several ways to get involved and help in these efforts. Here are some organizations providing urgent relief and essential services to flood victims during this ‘unprecedented natural disaster.’ They need our help now!
