It’s time to fall back! This year the clock falls back at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 6th, so before you go to bed on Saturday night, don’t forget to set your clocks back (and in case you do, at least you have an extra hour padded into your morning). During the cold winter months, we say goodbye to the sun a whole hour earlier which means shorter days and more cozy nights spent by the fire…an idea we don’t hate!
But how about that bonus hour of daylight on Sunday morning? A brisk walk or jog around Liberty Park or a quick hike up Ferguson Canyon. Or treat yourself to a breakfast pastry and a double-shot espresso or pumpkin spice latte at The Coffee Garden (because you know, it’s that time of year). Or you can even catch the last day of the Orchid Show at Red Butte (it will be awhile before we see flowers bloom again!)
Daylight Savings is also a great time for reminding your clients to follow-up on some routine home maintenance (along with changing their clocks). Here are some recommended fall ‘cleanup’ tasks for your home (after you take that extra hour for yourself, of course).
– Check and replace batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
– Replace batteries in flashlights and remote controls.
– Reverse your ceiling fan’s direction to blow down in the winter.
– Clean wood-burning fireplaces and have a chimney sweep inspect your chimney.
– If you have an in-refrigerator water filtration system, check and change the filter.
– Check exterior dryer and heater vents to ensure they are clear of debris. Clean the dryer filter and hoses.
– Stock up on a winter’s supply of furnace filters. Change filters monthly for maximum energy savings.
– Clear gutters of debris and check for any leaks – fix now before it snows or freezes over.
– Clean and store patio furniture, drain garden hoses and install insulating covers on spigots.
As you know, in real estate timeliness is everything. You can reflect the importance of this in your own business by alerting clients to the upcoming time change while creating an opportunity to offer some helpful advice.
Happy ‘falling back!’
