With the holiday season quickly closing in and 2016 winding down, it’s time to start planning for the New Year! But before you break out the champagne and sing Auld Lang Syne, it’s important to set aside some time to assess the previous year and think about what Utah real estate goals you want to accomplish in 2017. What were your wins? What were your challenges? The new year will present you with a new crop of each, and while you may not be able to predict what they will be, you can come prepared.
“Success is where opportunity and preparation meet.” –Bobby Unser
Preparation is a leadership skill that allows you to face challenges without anxiety or frustration disrupting your progress. Formulate a plan early on that clearly defines your goals and how you will achieve them. Studies show the act of writing goals down helps commit them to memory. So write it down, post it, tweet it, snap it — whatever you prefer to do. Just do something every day, even if it’s small, that takes you one step closer to getting there.
Let’s get started!
Review – Preparation involves reviewing the progress you made toward achieving your goals this past year. What worked well? What would you do differently? What lessons have you learned? Mistakes and setbacks are often our best lessons. Use them wisely.
Visualize – Seeing what you want to achieve will help you take action to make it a reality. This could involve closing more transactions, increasing your income by a certain percentage or expanding your client base. Remember that more often than not, these are all interrelated.
Practice – Your day-to-day lead generating activities and marketing efforts are just that — practice — and sets the stage for success. The more you practice, the more prepared you’ll be to handle challenges and unexpected events that arise.
Set Goals – When you set measurable, realistic goals, you have a target to shoot for during the year. Post goals where you can see them; a little daily reminder boosts your chances of following through with them to the end.
Devise a Strategy – For some people, it’s easier to start with a goal and work backward, reversing the process. What tasks will turn your goals into reality? How often will you have to do them? What steps will you have to take to help you get there? Do what works best for you.
Adopt a Mindset – Success is won or lost with mindset. Anyone seeking success has to develop and persevere through setbacks, fear, and rejection in order to reach their goals. Create clearly defined written goals with a deadline and then focus them daily around a positive mindset.
Make a Plan – Get out your calendar and mark down your vacation time, seminars, workshops, and other important non-negotiable dates (events you must attend). Once you’ve marked these down, you can fill in the rest of your priorities. Remember, take it day by day!
While you can’t predict when a challenge or setback will occur, planning will help to mitigate the impact and give you the confidence to keep pushing forward. Create an environment that reflects your Utah real estate goals and ultimately, when you’ve achieved them, one that will reflect your successes.
Cheers!
