What’s New in Salt Lake: March into Utah Foodie Scene Madness!

It’s no secret that Utah is growing. As the third-fastest growing state in the nation, more people are calling the Beehive State home — living, working and consuming here. And that requires an impressive ability to meet not only housing and employment demands, but a wide variety of taste buds.

As a new generation of homebuyers flock to Utah’s booming capital city, Salt Lake’s foodie and nightlife scene is turning things up a notch and dressing to impress. Named recently as one of the Top 10 Foodie Cities in the US, Salt Lake is securing its place as one of the culinary hotspots of the West. With more than a dozen artisanal coffee roasters, close to 20 local breweries and a bold restaurant scene that is serving up cutting edge fare, Salt Lake has a surprisingly diverse dining repertoire.

Salt Lake’s culinary and nightlife scene just got even more appealing with five new openings, ranging from casual cafes and pub fare to experimental dining experiences that are perfect for après ski, before a show at the Eccles Center or after a Jazz game. The only problem: how to decide!

White Horse Spirits & Kitchen

White Horse, a modern American Brasserie located in the heart of downtown, serves everything from bar snacks to shared plates, fresh oysters to sandwiches and steaks. They are also home to Utah’s largest Apertif and Digestif menu which pairs well with over 30 Ciders from all over the world. Open 7 days a week, 11 am – 1 am.

Lake Effect

Lake Effect is a destination bar located close to the Salt Palace Convention Center in downtown Salt Lake. The ‘latest purveyor’ of craft cocktails and fine dining, small plates, tapas, burgers and sandwiches are the stars on this casual menu. Stop in for live blues music on Move and Groove Mondays or sign up for a pairing class on Tasting Tuesdays — or just stop in to grub any day of the week! Open everyday, 11 am – 1 am.

Fisher Brewing Company

Founded in Salt Lake City in 1884, the long-defunct Fisher Brewing Company has been brought back to life as an employee-owned craft brewery. Located in the Granary District of Salt Lake City, they offer a selection of ales and lagers (including a new IPA) on draft in their brewery taproom. As far as the food? Every day, a different food truck bellies up to the brewery. For a list of the visiting truck of the day, visit here.

Seasons

Vegans now have a classy hangout in Salt Lake at Seasons, which serves “classically inspired gourmet plant-based comfort food.” French and Italian are the mainstay using local, regional, organic, and non-gmo sourced foods. They offer a small beer and wine selection as well as hand-crafted desserts. Located near Smith’s ballpark, Season is open Tuesday-Saturday, 4 pm – 10 pm.

Table-X

This space south of Sugar House is a historic barrel-roofed warehouse that once served as a cheese factory. Chefs Mike Blocher, Nick Fahs and David Barboza create artful but casual fare, focused on local meats and produce from the restaurant’s own garden that aligns with the changing seasons. They also offer a 5-course tasting menu with optional wine pairing. Open Wednesday-Sunday, 5 pm – 10 pm.

The Rest

The Rest is a subterranean speakeasy beneath Bodega, filled with taxidermy, antiques and the inventive cooking of Chef Brendan Cagle. Offerings include honey-glazed beer-can chicken, fried brioche doughnuts and a unique version of poutine. Its upstairs companion (Bodega) offers small plates and vintage cocktails. Located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake, The Rest is open Tuesday-Saturday, 5 pm – 1 am.

Welcome, 2020! We made it through the first week of the New Year and are already excited for what’s to come in this brand new decade. Anything can happen, and we have so much to create! Whether you’re a fan of long-term resolutions or prefer setting smaller, short-term goals, it feels good to start the year off with a desire to change for the better. If you know us, you know our approach at Novation Title has always been goal-centric, not only within our business but in our personal lives and out in the community. In today’s world where we are constantly connected (and distracted), it’s no wonder that we increasingly find ourselves overwhelmed mentally and physically drained. Often, the issues in everyday life are the ones that prevent us from enjoying the very same everyday life! How can we balance this out? We believe we can do better. That is why we are introducing meditation into our workspace. While meditation has been practiced for over 5,000 years, it is increasingly becoming a necessary way for us to unplug from the modern world. But what, exactly, is it? Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique — such as mindfulness — to train attention and thoughts. Mindfulness is awareness, it is a state of peace. It is being in the present moment, intentional and serene. It is the process of being aware of your thoughts while also disconnecting from them so you can connect within. Connecting within is the highest form of intelligence and results in proven mental, emotional and spiritual health benefits. Here are just a few science-based benefits of meditation: Reduces blood pressure Increases serotonin production that improves mood and behavior Improves immune system Increase in energy levels Lessens stress and anxiety Increases happiness and creativity Clarity and peace of mind Increased memory retention and recall Enhances self-awareness and self-acceptance Each one of us, regardless of gender, age or other factors, undergo daily stress and tension at some level or the other. That’s why we’re so excited to introduce #NovationMeditation into our business and we encourage others to join us this year. We can ALL benefit from improved mental and physical health in 2020. Who’s with us?!
